FS 1080 - Introduction to Sustainable Fashion Design Credits: 3 Course Type: Studio
This introductory course focuses on the philosophy of sustainable design by teaching design approaches and methods that comply with the principles of social, economic, and ecological sustainability in the design of textiles and products. Upon successful completion of this course, students will have developed a basic understanding of how to minimize negative environmental impacts and encourage social consciousness and responsibility.
Prerequisites: FS 1000 - Fashion Industry Survey
Course Learning Outcomes:
- Examine the challenges of sustainable apparel design and environmentally responsible apparel production practices.
- Assess the environmental impact of material production and resource selection through lifecycle analysis.
- Research and explain social change strategies for designing ‘green’ including sustainable textile development.
- Demonstrate basic social consciousness and responsibility in their apparel design and development practices.
