ART 2240 - Painting II


Credits: 3
Course Type: Studio

This sophomore-level course provides an overview of more advanced skills and concepts in painting. The course includes an exploration of varying subject matter as they study the relationship between figure and ground. As students begin to define their individual directions, creative integration of concept, drawing, painting, color, and composition become important concerns. Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to demonstrate knowledge of research skills and their application to individual processes and begin to apply this to their practice.

Prerequisites: ART 1140 - Painting I

Course Learning Outcomes:
  • Students execute individual studio projects, a variety of painting techniques, and the appropriate materials associated with each technique.
  • Students present individual creative process strategies through critiques and discussions and strategize their process and product with historical and/or contemporary issues/ theories and in their relationship to culture/society.
  • Students recognize and demonstrate an understanding of a diptych, triptych, and a series of paintings. Students arrange work according to the elements of art and principles of design.
